Matinée Presentation:
From June through August 2024, the Filipino Association of University Women (FAUW) held free writing workshops on Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island, to encourage and document original, first-person histories that contribute to an enhanced understanding of the Filipino experience in Hawaiʻi, and its impact on the history and culture of our Island state. The workshop project—“We Tell Our Story: Filipino Voices in Hawaiʻi,” made possible by a grant from the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities—is now being followed by a series of public forums in which workshop participants share excerpts from their memoirs: growing up, living, immigrating, adapting, and more, as Filipinos in Hawaiʻi. Whether or not this is part of your family’s personal history experience, you are bound to recognize—or to learn—something meaningful from listening to these stories! Do so on either of two occasions: Monday, February 3 or Tuesday, February 4. This program is being offered free of charge to the community! For details: (808) 935-5021 or www.lymanmuseum.org.
