march_mdl_logoOn Saturday, March 12, 2016, the Lyman Museum will participate in a special edition of “Museum Day Live,” when the Smithsonian Institution celebrates a nationwide campaign to reach women and girls of color throughout the U.S. in underserved communities. Held during Women’s History Month, this “special edition” of Smithsonian’s signature “Museum Day Live!” event will encourage all people, and particularly women and girls of color, to explore their nation’s museums, cultural institutions, zoos, aquariums, parks and libraries – which offer free admission for the day. On this day museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors free of charge to anyone presenting a Museums Day Live! ticket.

“The Lyman Museum is proud to be a Smithsonian Affiliate and to participate in Museum Day,” said executive director Barbara Moir.  “This is a great opportunity for visitors and residents to discover or rediscover what we have here.  We are a one-stop resource for anyone who wants to learn about the natural and cultural history of HawaiÔi.”

Attendees must present a Smithsonian Museum Day Live! ticket to gain free entry to participating institutions.  The Museum Day Live! ticket is available online at http://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-live-march-2016/tickets/.  The ticket is valid for two free general admissions, and is limited to one per household.

The nationally accredited Lyman Museum showcases the natural and cultural history of Hawai`i.  The museum is located in downtown Hilo, at 276 Haili Street, and is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  For additional information please call 808-935-5021 or visit www.lymanmuseum.org.
